Hammary Furniture Company was started in October 1943 by Hamilton Louden Bruce. The name "Hammary" derived from Hamilton's name and his wife's name, Mary. Mr. Bruce leased a small space and hired two helpers to begin production of canvas lawn chairs. In late 1947, Mr. Bruce began manufacturing occasional tables, and the company expanded from there.
