Quality-Built Upholstered Club Chairs

It is true the eye appeal of a club chair is on the outside. But the staying power is on the inside.

As you shop for upholstered club chairs like the club chairs we feature here, it is good to know the steps in building the furniture. Read more about what types of wood is used, and the techniques employed to make your chair last.

Frames
Club chair frames made of wood can use several types. Usually it is a hardwood or plywood of some variety. Kiln-dried hardwood, soft or hard plywood, and strand board can be used. The hardest woods, kiln-dried hardwood and hardwood plywood can hold joining hardware and wood pegs or dowels for years. Durable frames have solid joinery that is glued or screwed in at the stress points.

Foundations
Foundations of club chairs are important, too. Also known as the seat deck, this area supports the cushions. Eight-way, hand tied coil spring construction has been the standard of quality for many years. Each spring is placed into foundation by hand and secured by interlocking knots. Some steel springs can also offer an equal grade of quality.

Cushions
Types of club chair cushioning available grow more diverse every day, and can be constructed from many different materials. Fibers such as cotton or polyester, and others including down can fill a cushion. Springs can also be employed, too. Polyurethane foam is a popular choice for club chairs, and can be used alone or with other fillings. It also comes in many varieties and is judges by its density. A good density rating is from 1.8 to 2.5 pounds per cubic foot. Foam cushions should be cover by fabric so they do not contact the outer upholstery.

Upholstery and Coverings
Coverings for your club chair are nearly limitless, and just about any chair can be re-upholstered with any fabric you choose. The first choice you will have to make is choosing a natural or synthetic fiber. Of course, many fabrics can be blended for strength, convenience, conservation, etc. Generally, the more active and harsher the environment is, the more synthetic a fabric is the more desirable. Consideration of looks and use will determine your fabric choice, too.

Safety in fabrics and construction is important. You must consider how a piece will impact your fire safety. Make sure your club chair has upholstery carrying the UFAC (Upholstered Furniture Action Council) tag, which says it has a higher flame retardant rating. Always be careful with cigarettes, candles, and other open flame.

You will have excellent luck finding a wonderful club chair for your decor at ClubChairs.com. We think you will agree the selection of club chairs is amazing.
